Fatal incident in Lampedusa: diver struck by boat

A 29-year-old diver, Cristiano Giamporcaro, died in Lampedusa yesterday evening after being hit by the propellers of a boat. According to initial reports, Giamporcaro was diving and had signaled his presence with a buoy when the boat, carrying two tourists from Milan, passed too close to him.

The Agrigento Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation, considering the charge of maritime homicide against the boat's owners. The Milanese tourists have already been questioned by the Coast Guard regarding the incident.

The hypothesis of maritime homicide was raised following the analysis of the incident's dynamics. The boat's owners remain under investigation as authorities seek to clarify the exact circumstances that led to the tragedy.

Additionally, an autopsy has been ordered on Giamporcaro's body to determine the cause of death. The victim was originally from Caltanissetta and worked as a director, having participated in the Festival dei Popoli in Florence with a short film, among other projects.
