The federal government declared a state of emergency in 36 municipalities in Amazonas in response to wildfires. The Ministry of Integration and Regional Development confirmed the emergency just hours after the state government’s decree, allowing federal resources to be requested for the region.

Aerial operations to combat the fires began on Sunday (11), with aircraft mobilized by the federal government. These flights were conducted following aerial reconnaissance to identify the most critical areas affected by the flames.

On Monday (12), the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) commenced the use of two KC-390 Millennium cargo planes to support firefighting operations. The planes landed at the Manaus Air Force Base and conducted their first flight in the morning.

The KC-390 Millennium is equipped to perform large-volume water drops, capable of discharging up to 12,000 liters in a single mission. The FAB has scheduled three flights per day as part of the firefighting effort.

In addition to the FAB's aircraft, planes from the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) participated in the operations, dropping over 10,000 liters of water on fire hotspots in the Metropolitan Region of Manaus on the same date.

The coordination of flights and implementation of actions are part of a federal government task force to combat the wildfires, with multiple aircraft operating in different regions of the state, including Autazes, Itacoatiara, and the area around Manaus.
