Firefighting in the High Fens: Measures Intensified

Firefighting efforts continue in the High Fens nature reserve in Belgium. According to authorities in Monschau, located on the border with Belgium, firefighting operations are picking up pace again as aerial firefighting helicopters have resumed their work. This measure is being intensified during daylight hours to bring the situation under control.

Franz-Karl Boden, deputy mayor of Monschau, commented on the situation, noting that the fire has not advanced further during the night. So far, this has allowed emergency services to prevent any additional spread of the fire towards Germany. Currently, there has also been light rainfall, which could potentially alleviate the burden on the responders.

Monschau authorities currently believe that the fire will not cross into German territory. The situation is being closely monitored as firefighting efforts continue.
