The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) announced that Cristiano Ronaldo has been punished with a 30-day suspension and a €255 fine for leaving the national team's training camp, which occurred in Copenhagen, Denmark, on September 30. The sanction was disclosed on Monday by the FPF's Disciplinary Council.

The incident arose just before a Nations League match, and Ronaldo had previously acknowledged the inevitability of a punishment. The suspension will be retroactive, meaning it will not prevent the player from participating in future matches for the national team, should he be called up again by coach Jorge Jesus.

According to reports, the decision by the Disciplinary Council was made in response to a disciplinary infraction committed by the national team captain. This suspension allows Ronaldo to be available for upcoming competitions, including the Nations League matches scheduled for next month.

At 41 years old, Ronaldo is one of the most recognized players in world football, and the penalty has sparked discussions about the nature of the imposed sanction. The fine, viewed as symbolic, represents a modest sum compared to the player's earnings, who is often mentioned as the highest-paid athlete in the world, according to Forbes.

Reactions to the punishment have varied, with some commentators considering the fine excessively lenient, especially given the impact of his absence on the team's dynamics. However, the FPF maintained that the punishment is in accordance with the applicable guidelines and regulations, stating that Ronaldo committed the infraction.
