The German government has blamed Russia for the failed attack involving an explosive drone at Leipzig/Halle Airport. This was announced by Interior Minister Dobrindt and Foreign Minister Wadephul, who emphasized that it is a serious incident that will not go unanswered.

Kaja Kallas, the EU foreign policy chief, spoke at an EU defense ministers' meeting and highlighted that there are many indications of a connection between Russia and the drone that was found. She made it clear that it ultimately falls to the German authorities to clarify the exact background of the incident.

In connection with the attempted attack, German authorities have decided to close the Russian consulate general in Bonn. This measure is seen as a direct response to the situation that has developed in recent days.

According to Interior Minister Dobrindt, both explosives and ignition technology used in the attempted attack have been identified in previous hybrid attacks. This strengthens the assumption that it was a targeted attack.

The German government also announced plans to consider and potentially impose further sanctions against Russia in response to the incident. As investigations continue, the situation remains tense and requires closer cooperation within the EU.
