Germany blames Russia for drone attack in Leipzig
German authorities have officially assigned responsibility for an attempted attack on a Ukrainian cargo plane in Leipzig to Russia and announced measures in response.

The German government has officially held Russia responsible for an attempted attack on a Ukrainian cargo plane, the Antonov An-124, at Leipzig Airport. This was announced at a press conference by Alexander Dobrinth, the Minister of the Interior, and Johann Wadeful, the Foreign Minister.
Minister Dobrinth stated that the perpetrators and organizers of the attack acted on the orders of Russian state entities. He further noted that the configuration of the type of drone used, as well as the chemical substances involved, are comparable to other known Russian operations.
The German authorities have decided to close the Russian consulate in Bonn. In addition, access for Russian citizens to Germany will be subjected to stricter controls. These measures are being taken in response to the executed drone operation.

The hybrid attack occurred near the Ukrainian cargo plane, and the German government classifies it as a serious incident. Details regarding the attackers and their recruitment were not disclosed; however, it was pointed out that private individuals and so-called 'low-level agents' were involved.
The escalating situation could also lead to further diplomatic tensions between Germany and Russia. A report mentions that Moscow might consider closing the Goethe-Institut as a possible reaction, which would further strain the already tense relations.
