The Government of Portugal has reinforced the public guarantee intended for housing credit for young people, a tool considered essential to facilitate access to home ownership. So far, banks have already requested 92.8% of the available public guarantee, which totals €2.3 billion.

According to Público, the financial institutions Novo Banco and Montepio have made the most use of this mechanism, with recent requests for an additional €100 million to provide housing credit with the State's guarantee. Thus, the availability of funds for this type of credit may be reaching its limits.

The Government's measure aims to support young people in purchasing homes at a time when many face significant challenges in accessing properties. The duration and ongoing impacts of this action are still being monitored by the relevant authorities.
