The Government of Portugal has authorized a financial boost of €1.538 billion for the National Health Service (SNS). This funding is intended to cover expenses related to medications, examinations, and other current expenses in local health units (ULS) and Portuguese cancer institutes (IPO). This announcement followed two capital injections made between January and August of this year, according to information from ECO.

Additionally, the Government has implemented a support package of €15 million for farmers. This measure aims to compensate farmers for the increased cost of fuels. The aid corresponding to consumption in July and August will be paid in October, as reported by ECO.

Farmers will continue to benefit from a compensation of 10 cents per liter of colored diesel, which will be maintained until the end of the year. Furthermore, the Azores and Madeira will receive additional funds, as reported by Observador.

The financial support for the SNS is considered a necessary measure to ensure the continuity of health services and meet the financial needs of health units. This boost is part of a continuous effort by the Government to safeguard the SNS and its capacity to provide care.

On the other hand, the assistance to farmers aims to mitigate the economic impact resulting from rising fuel prices, reflecting a concern for the sustainability of the agricultural sector. The Government thus intends to support farmers in a context of increasing financial pressure.

In summary, the initiatives from the Government include a significant increase in the budget allocated to the SNS, along with specific measures to support farmers facing challenges due to rising fuel costs. These actions demonstrate an effort in two important areas of public policy.
