The exploratory talks between the Left Party, the Greens, and the SPD in Berlin have been temporarily suspended. This decision was made by the two parties after the Left Party admitted a controversial member who has faced criticism due to her stance on Israel into its faction.

The Greens and SPD announced that they want to first evaluate a statement from the Left Party regarding its approach to antisemitism. This statement is to be signed by all members of the Left faction before any further progress in the talks can occur.

The decision to suspend the talks came after a week during which the involved parties reportedly had "good discussions." During this time, the parties attempted to explore possible coalition options and discuss various issues.

The Greens and the SPD had expressed ambitions for a red-red-green coalition following the election. The current development represents a setback in their efforts to form a viable coalition that could achieve a majority in the Berlin House of Representatives.

The Left Party's behavior regarding its treatment of antisemitism had already caused irritation among potential coalition partners before the suspension. The leadership of the Greens had expressed concerns, which has now put the exploratory talks on hold.

The coming days will reveal whether the parties can reach an agreement that is acceptable to all sides. Until then, it remains unclear how the discussions will proceed and whether the talks will resume in the near future. The wishes of the Left Party are also unknown at this stage. According to various sources, the issue of antisemitism remains a focal point in the discussions.
