Groups call for more support for heavy vehicle electrification in Portugal
Zero and the Electric Vehicle Users Association highlight the need for public investment in the electrification of goods transport in Portugal.

The associations Zero and the Electric Vehicle Users Association (UVE) criticize the lack of public support for the electrification of heavy goods vehicles in Portugal. According to the associations, the country is lagging behind several other European states in the transition to electric vehicles in this segment.
The organizations point out that countries like Germany and France provide subsidies for the acquisition of electric heavy vehicles, in addition to offering support for the installation of charging infrastructure. These measures aim to accelerate the shift towards more sustainable transport.
Zero and UVE also mention that the implementation of toll reductions for electric vehicles is a practice already adopted in some European nations, which they consider essential for encouraging the adoption of cleaner technologies in goods transport.

The associations urge the Portuguese government to take similar measures, arguing that the lack of incentives is hampering the modernization of the transport sector in the country. The transition to electric vehicles is seen as a way to reduce the carbon footprint and tackle climate change.
The criticism of the slow progress in electrifying heavy vehicles is accompanied by a warning about the importance of aligning with the environmental goals set by the European Union, to ensure that Portugal does not fall behind in the move towards a greener economy.
