The Health Minister, Ana Paula Martins, has acknowledged the shortage of anesthesiologists at the Local Health Unit (ULS) of São José. This alert was raised by the Medical Union of the Southern Zone, which pointed out a "serious shortage" of these professionals in the region.

Martins confirmed the situation and announced plans to increase the number of specialty internship positions as a measure to address the problem. The minister also emphasized that the shortage is not limited to Lisbon, but affects other areas as well.

The acknowledged lack of anesthesiologists raises concerns about the responsiveness of health services. The proposal to open more positions aims to address the needs identified by the union.
