On August 17, Rome was hit by a violent lightning storm that lit up the night sky. The strong electrical activity was accompanied by intense thunderstorms, causing disruptions and a weather alert across Lazio.
According to Sky TG24, the storm affected various municipalities along the Roman coastline, including Ladispoli, Cerveteri, and Santa Marinella, where heavy downpours were recorded. Previously, Lazio had experienced a heatwave, followed by this abrupt climatic shift.
Rai News reported that an amateur video captured the change in weather, showing rain that lasted about 30 minutes and was preceded by gusts of wind in the Appio Claudio (Cinecittà) area.
