Identity of Belgian Climbers Confirmed After 34 Years by DNA Testing
Human remains found in the Swiss Alps belong to two missing Belgian climbers, police in Valais confirmed on Wednesday.

On July 26, 2023, human remains were discovered on the Trift Glacier near Saas-Grund in the Swiss Alps. Following a thorough DNA analysis, the cantonal police of Valais confirmed on Wednesday that these remains belong to two missing Belgian climbers from Beerse.
The two climbers, who disappeared during a trek in 1992, are now officially identified after more than 34 years.
According to the police, the identifications of these climbers represent a significant breakthrough in the case. The human remains were recently discovered, prompting further investigation to establish the victims' identities.
The confirmation that the remains belong to the climbers brings some closure for the families and friends who have faced uncertainty for over three decades.
