Iguazu Falls: Removal of Barriers and Access Restrictions Due to River Flooding
Authorities have removed the barriers from the walkway at Iguazu Falls and implemented access restrictions due to rising river levels.

On October 13, 2026, the operator responsible for managing Iguazu National Park removed the protective barriers from the walkway leading to Iguazu Falls in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná. This action, the first since 2023, was prompted by the increase in water volume in the Iguazu River.
Authorities activated a preventive protocol due to the river flooding, which exceeded 12,000 cubic meters. This measure aims to allow water passage and prevent damage to the walkway structure.
In addition to removing the barriers, access restrictions to the main circuits of the falls were announced on both the Brazilian and Argentine sides. These decisions seek to ensure the safety of visitors and the preservation of the site in light of adverse weather conditions.

The flooding of the Iguazu River has been partially attributed to precipitation associated with the El Niño climate phenomenon, which has affected the region in recent days. Weather forecasts suggest that water levels may continue to rise, necessitating swift actions by the authorities.
Additional information regarding the situation, including safety conditions and expectations for visitation, has been released. Park authorities communicated the need for continuous monitoring of the situation in the coming hours and days.
There is still no estimate on when the restrictions will be lifted, nor regarding the possibility of reopening the barriers, as this will depend on the evolution of weather conditions and the safety of the structures.
