Impeachment Trial of Vice President Sara Duterte Continues with Intense Disputes
The impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte is marked by disputes over her bank records and connections to GenCorp Industries, with testimony from various parties.

The impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte saw renewed tensions on Monday as the House prosecution panel pushed for the admission of her bank records into evidence. Chel Diokno, a member of the prosecution team, revealed that they had submitted a request for these records last week. This matter was a focal point during the 30th day of proceedings as the court sought to investigate various aspects of Duterte's alleged financial misconduct.
In a related development, Diokno urged the defense to acknowledge the authenticity of bank records obtained from financial institutions that had been subpoenaed, suggesting that doing so would save time for the impeachment court. However, the defense had previously objected to this request, complicating the proceedings further.
Additional testimony was provided by PMaj. Joericson Sangalang from the PNP-FEO Records Section, who confirmed that Vice President Sara Duterte personally owns 22 firearms. This detail was presented to the court amidst discussions regarding her financial dealings and business interests.

The prosecution also raised questions concerning Duterte's connections to GenCorp Industries Inc., a company involved in government contracts where her brother, Davao City Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte, was questioned about his knowledge of these dealings. Baste Duterte claimed that he did not intervene or favor GenCorp in procurement processes, despite facing scrutiny from the prosecution.
Following these claims, senator-judge Erwin Tulfo recommended that Baste Duterte investigate the actions of his chief of staff and the local government's dealings with GenCorp Industries. This came after Baste admitted he had limited awareness of his sister's business interests during his testimony.
In response to Baste Duterte's assertions of ignorance regarding the financial connections, Malacañang expressed concern, underscoring that the Davao City mayor could not simply deny knowledge of the dealings associated with his sister. This situation highlights the complex interactions and allegations surrounding Vice President Sara Duterte's financial activities.
