According to reports from Europol, violent gold thefts in cultural institutions have risen. This increase is reflected in the recent robbery of the Villena Treasure, which took place early Thursday morning at the Villena Museum (MUVI). This incident occurred just a month after four hooded thieves stole 200 gold coins from the Albacete Museum in just a minute and a half.

The theft of the Villena Treasure is the third incident involving gold pieces in Spanish museums this year. The first was the theft of the treasure from Villanueva de la Serena, which occurred at the Archaeological Museum of Badajoz on April 25.

The thieves of the Villena Treasure left behind an iron bracelet, one of the two most valuable pieces in the goldsmith set. This bracelet, made in the Bronze Age, is crafted from mineral extracted from a meteorite.

The Villena Museum has initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances of the theft and analyze the existing security measures within the institution. According to the museum director, this may involve reviewing current protocols to enhance the protection of the collections.

The thefts in culture and heritage have raised concerns among conservation and security experts in Spain, who warn about the need to increase vigilance and protection for historical pieces.
