External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced that India is currently engaged in discussions with both Russia and Ukraine as part of its efforts to contribute to peace in the ongoing conflict. Speaking at a security conference in Delhi, he emphasized that India has moved beyond mere advocacy and is actively involved in diplomatic initiatives aimed at facilitating dialogue between the two nations.

Jaishankar stated that India has been advocating for an end to the war for several years and believes that dialogue and diplomacy are essential. He remarked on India’s historical ties with Russia while also noting the country's growing relationship with the European Union, reflecting a balanced approach in India's foreign policy.

The minister confirmed that India is pushing for a more significant role in the negotiations surrounding the conflict, particularly focusing on issues like maritime safety and the flow of grain. This approach aligns with Indian efforts to address critical commodity security, which has been highlighted amid the war's impact on global supply chains.

Recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'good ideas' for finding a mutually acceptable resolution. This backs India’s position in the ongoing international dialogues and signifies an intention from both nations to explore potential solutions.

Additionally, India has proposed a three-part ceasefire plan that aims to facilitate the flow of grain and energy shipments through the Black Sea while ensuring the cessation of attacks on commercial shipping and energy infrastructure. This proposal is described as one of the most comprehensive ceasefire initiatives to date, showcasing India's active diplomatic involvement in the region.

Jaishankar's comments come at a time when there is increasing international focus on finding viable resolutions to the conflict, and they suggest a pivot towards a more proactive stance by India in the ongoing negotiations.
