In August 2023, the inflation rate in Germany reached 2.9 percent, marking the highest level in nearly three years. This figure was determined by the Federal Statistical Office based on preliminary data. According to sources, the primary driver of prices during this period was energy, which significantly fueled inflation.

The current inflation rate remains close to the three percent threshold. This increase highlights a tense situation in the energy sector, which strongly affects consumer prices. In recent months, only in December 2023 was there a stronger rise in consumer prices, when the rate stood at 3.7 percent.

Economists expect that consumer prices could continue to rise, complicating the situation for consumers. The development of energy prices plays a crucial role in this, as they have a significant impact on overall inflation.

The situation at the gas station has also worsened, contributing to the frustration of drivers. Analysts and experts are closely monitoring market developments to assess any necessary policy measures.
