The Indian government has initiated the Kanda Express program as onion prices have surged by 19% in the last month. This new initiative aims to alleviate the rising costs of onions for consumers.
According to reports, the Kanda Express will include the sale of buffer stock onions at a subsidised rate of ₹35 per kilogram in select consuming centres. Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare provided details about this pricing strategy.
The introduction of the Kanda Express comes as various political parties, including Congress, criticize the government over the escalating prices of essential commodities. Congress has highlighted these issues as part of a broader concern regarding economic management.
