Kazakhstan votes for new parliament after constitutional reforms
Today, more than 12 million people in Kazakhstan will vote for a new parliament that is meant to embody new political structures.

In Kazakhstan, more than 12 million eligible citizens are called to vote for a new parliament today. The election takes place following comprehensive constitutional amendments that were implemented beforehand.
The population is voting for representatives in a new unicameral parliament for the first time. This reform is intended to allow for greater political participation, which the government presents as progress.
However, critics express concerns that these changes may instead represent a strengthening of presidential power, particularly that of President Tokayev, who succeeded long-serving President Nazarbayev in 2019. Their hopes for comprehensive democratic reforms have thus far remained unfulfilled.
