Kevin Pietersen has been named as a specialist mentor for England's white-ball cricket teams during the lead-up to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, scheduled for late 2027. This announcement was made on Monday morning.

This role marks Pietersen's first involvement with the senior England team since his sacking as a player following the 2013/14 Ashes series in Australia, which ended in a whitewash for England.

Pietersen's relationship with the English cricket establishment has been complex, especially following the circumstances of his exit from the team, which generated significant media attention and public discourse.

Head coach Brendon McCullum confirmed Pietersen's appointment as part of his backroom staff, indicating a willingness to integrate experienced figures back into the team framework.

Reports have highlighted that despite their strained history, McCullum's decision to bring Pietersen on board reflects a strategic move aimed at bolstering the team's performance in the upcoming World Cup.

Pietersen's return is viewed with interest across the cricket community given his previous contributions to the England setup and the ongoing discussions about team dynamics and leadership.
