Livre demands clarification on costs of Italian frigates

The party Livre has submitted a formal request to the government for documents justifying the costs of the Italian frigates. This issue arises following contradictory statements between deputies Montenegro and Nuno Melo, encompassing a discrepancy of 100 million euros in the prices presented.

Deputy Montenegro stated a figure that is disputed by Nuno Melo, generating discontent within Livre, which demands greater transparency regarding these numbers. The party also questions why the Italian frigates cost more than those of the Italian Navy, thus raising doubts about the viability and justification of the investment.

According to reports, the total cost of the frigate deal is 3.9 billion euros, which has raised concerns not only within Livre but also among other parties. The deputies are interested in knowing if there were any intermediaries involved or if there are concrete benefits for the national industry associated with this acquisition.

In addition to price concerns, Livre also aims to understand the details of the deal's counterclaims and the supposed returns for the Portuguese economy. The party believes that a lack of clarity on these issues could undermine public trust in government decisions related to defense.

Livre's appeals reflect a growing desire among political parties for more information about military spending and acquisition processes. Transparency in negotiations for such contracts is frequently discussed in parliament.
