Lucinda Brand was crowned European cyclocross champion for the second time in her career on Saturday in Zeddam. This occurred after a decision by the race jury disqualified Luxembourg's Marie Schreiber.

Marie Schreiber crossed the finish line first but was penalized for improper sprinting. During the sprint, she deviated too much from her line, causing Brand to be impeded. Although Brand did not file a protest, the jury decided to relegate Schreiber to second place.

The decision led to an unexpected turn in the race. Schreiber, who had initially won the title, was visibly emotional about the disqualification and called it disrespectful to take such an important moment in her career away from her.

The Luxembourg Cycling Federation (FSCL) has since filed an official complaint against the jury's decision. They expressed their dissatisfaction with the disqualification and believe that Schreiber deserved the victory.

Various stakeholders, including team manager Sven Nys, have voiced their criticism of the jury's decision. Nys indicated that he disagreed with the outcome, asserting that Schreiber had won the title before Brand.

The situation surrounding the race remains unclear, as the complaint from the Luxembourg federation could have implications for the official result.
