Non-Chinese residents of Macau, including Portuguese citizens, now have a new convenience when crossing borders into mainland China by car. Starting today, these residents can use just one document for the crossing, instead of two as previously required.

The measure covers three crossing points: Hengqin, Qingmao, and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. This means residents no longer need to present their Macau identity card during the crossing.

With the new rule, residents can use a pass, simplifying the process. This change aims to make mobility more efficient for those with interests in the mainland.

Information about this new regulation has been reported by multiple sources, including RTP and Observador. Both highlight the ease brought about by the change in crossing rules.

This modification has been received as a positive step in facilitating connections between Macau and the rest of China. The immediate impact of these changes on residents' daily lives will need to be assessed later.

With this update, an increase in traffic between Macau and mainland China is expected, as residents will face fewer obstacles when traveling. However, the long-term effects of this measure have yet to be discussed.
