Madonna announced on Tuesday that she has received the most nominations for this year's MTV Video Music Awards. The pop veteran has been nominated a total of eleven times, making her the leading artist of the event.

Taylor Swift closely follows with nine nominations. This once again highlights the popularity of both artists, who have celebrated significant success in the music industry over the years.

The MTV Video Music Awards this year recognize the best music videos and are known for their spectacular performances. Four decades ago, Madonna made headlines herself with her performance at the awards when she appeared with her hit "Material Girl."
