On the night from Sunday to Monday, a major fire completely destroyed the Marché des Enfants Rouges, the oldest covered market in Paris. The fire broke out in the third arrondissement of the French capital. According to Mayor Ariel Weil, the fire is now under control, but the historic market halls have been entirely ravaged, with the metal structure largely collapsed.

About 150 firefighters and around fifty fire trucks were involved in extinguishing the blaze. One firefighter sustained minor injuries, but no further casualties or injuries have been reported, according to the fire department.

Established in 1615, the Marché des Enfants Rouges was known as a popular destination for both locals and tourists, serving as a significant point in the historic Marais district. The blaze has caused substantial damage, with some sources estimating that around 1,000 square meters have been destroyed.

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown. Locals and visitors witnessed the flames rise, and witnesses expressed their astonishment at the scale of the fire. Reports indicate that the market is known for its variety of food stalls and shops.

The fire has had a significant impact on the surrounding community, which now faces the consequences of the loss of this iconic market hall. Many traders are devastated by the incident, which has resulted in the loss of numerous food stalls and their livelihoods.

This fire is a shocking event for the neighborhood, which heavily relied on the presence of the market. Fire services will continue to investigate how the fire started and will also monitor the adjacent buildings to prevent further damage.
