Marine heatwave in the North Sea lasts for 188 days

The Belgian North Sea has been under a marine heatwave for 188 days, marking a new record. This prolonged phenomenon is characterized by a significant increase in sea temperatures.

According to reports, July of this year was particularly warm, with an average sea temperature that was 2.7 degrees above the average of the past 25 years. So far this year, daily records for sea temperature have been broken 63 times.

It is noted that not only were the air temperatures on land exceptional, but the oceans also experienced the warmest July ever recorded. This indicates that the heat is not confined to land.
