Mauro Furtado, U-17 world champion, officially confirmed his departure from Benfica, where he spent 13 years. The Portuguese defender became known for his contributions at the youth level for the national team.
According to information from the Lisbon club, Furtado has already signed a contract with Girona, who were relegated to the Spanish Segunda División last season.
Furtado stated that he did not wish to leave Benfica in the manner that it occurred, although he did not elaborate on the reasons for his decision. The player is seen as a valuable addition to his new team.
Girona, for its part, hopes that Furtado's experience will help the team achieve better results next season after their relegation.
