Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2-1 at Camp Nou in a match played hours before the Ballon d'Or ceremony held in London. Kylian Mbappé scored twice in a decisive performance for Real Madrid's victory, according to reports from multiple media outlets.

The result brought Real Madrid closer in the LaLiga standings. According to El Universal, the Madrid side closed the gap on Barcelona, now trailing by three points in the overall table.

According to La Nación, manager Mourinho implemented a successful game plan against a Barcelona side that struggled throughout the match. Marca reported that Madrid dominated the encounter without necessarily controlling possession, with Tchouaméni making eleven recoveries and securing the central lane.

Lamine Yamal, Barcelona's 19-year-old forward, expressed confidence about his chances in the Ballon d'Or race. According to La Nación, the footballer stated: 'The best in the world are Mbappé and me, and I deserve it', showing confidence in his talent as one of the main contenders for the award.

Mbappé was among the favourites to win the Ballon d'Or at tonight's gala in London, according to 20minutos. Both Yamal and Mbappé were considered top candidates for the award presented by France Football magazine.

The ceremony took place at the London Palladium Theatre in London, where the best footballer of the season would be recognised. The event could be followed by streaming through platforms such as ESPN and DAZN, according to specialist media reports.
