Medical internship to have 2,400 positions in 2027

The Ministry of Health published a decree establishing 2,400 spots for the medical internship, according to official information.

The Ministry of Health has set the number of positions for entry into the medical internship at 2,400, according to a decree published today in the Diário da República.

The medical internship is a postgraduate training that enables doctors to practice medicine autonomously. This measure aims to ensure an increase in the number of qualified healthcare professionals in the country.

Data reveals that in the last competition for the medical internship, about 20% of the open positions were not filled by new doctors.

In the previous session, 2,331 positions were made available, a significant portion of which remained unoccupied, raising concerns about the attractiveness of the training.

This year, the established 2,400 positions aim to respond to the growing need for doctors in various specialties, reflecting the ministry's commitment to public health.

The expectation is that the new measure will help bridge gaps in medical coverage across different areas, although additional details on its implementation have yet to be disclosed.
