Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) announced that electricity rates will decrease by P0.0428 per kilowatt-hour in August 2026. This follows two consecutive months of rate increases and is part of a broader adjustment that reflects various billing components.

The reduction is influenced by the rollout of a P9.5-billion refund, which has helped counterbalance upward adjustments seen in other parts of the bill. Although the rate drop is noted, Meralco also indicated that it is tempered by higher pass-through costs.

Additionally, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has allowed an extra collection of P8.7 billion, which is also expected to affect overall billing for customers. The adjustments have been communicated to the public in a media briefing on Monday.
