Meta sued for minor addiction to Facebook and Instagram

Meta is facing a new lawsuit in the United States, accused of deliberately designing Facebook and Instagram to create addiction among minors. The lawsuits are motivated by allegations that Meta has implemented features aimed at making its platforms particularly appealing to teenagers. France 24 reports that jury selection is set to begin this Wednesday in Oakland, California.

The trial proceedings are scheduled to start on August 18, and the penalties sought by the states could reach up to $1.4 trillion. This lawsuit could have significant repercussions on how social media platforms manage minors' access to their services.
