At the Valdebebas press conference, José Mourinho and Kylian Mbappé made several notable statements ahead of Real Madrid's Champions League debut against Inter Milan. Mourinho, returning to the tournament after thirteen years, raised questions about refereeing decisions, evoking his famous 'Why?' from previous years. In particular, he referred to a penalty related to Mbappé that was not revisited in the recent match against Betis, suggesting a lack of clarity regarding the application of VAR.

Mbappé, for his part, defended his media relevance, pointing out that discussions about him generate significant interest. During the press conference, the forward expressed optimism about his performance this season and mentioned that it could be a good year for him in terms of the Ballon d'Or.

Regarding the performance of VAR, Mourinho expressed dissatisfaction, questioning whether the referees were unaware of the rules or simply chose not to apply them. This issue appears to have raised some concerns just days before the start of the group stage of the Champions.

The pre-match discussion also revolved around Mourinho's relationship with Inter, a club he considers special in his career. Chivu, the current Inter coach, is a former player whom Mourinho has labeled as one of the 'special children' in his journey.

Mourinho did not hold back in criticizing the lack of conversion of the chances created by his team in the last match, which, according to him, contributed to the defeat against Betis at La Cartuja. It came as no surprise that his words once again became the center of attention, given his controversial style.

The press conference turned into a space to address expectations about Madrid's return to the Champions League, as well as to express concerns about refereeing performance and the controversial decisions that have marked the week.
