The NBA has imposed unprecedented penalties on the Los Angeles Clippers for serious violations of salary cap regulations. The team has been fined thirty million dollars, approximately equivalent to nearly 26 million euros.

Additionally, the organization will have to forfeit five valuable draft picks. These penalties result from allegations of salary fraud, which are regarded as particularly serious within the NBA. The league asserts that these violations adversely affect competition.

Owner Steve Ballmer is also facing significant consequences; he has been suspended for one year. This is a direct result of his involvement in the violations, which have been classified as 'flagrant' by the organization.

According to various reports, star player Kawhi Leonard has also been fined 700,000 dollars due to his role in the salary fraud. This underscores the seriousness with which the NBA is treating these violations.

The NBA's salary cap rules are designed to ensure a level playing field within the league. Therefore, breaking these rules is seen as a significant threat to the integrity of the competition.

The penalties were revealed on Thursday and mark one of the heaviest sanctions the league has imposed on a team in recent history. This will undoubtedly have repercussions for the future of the Clippers and their players.
