Four departments in the South-East of France, namely Var, Alpes-Maritimes, and two others that were not specified, are under an orange alert for thunderstorms starting Thursday afternoon, according to a report from Météo-France. The alerts concern potentially strong thunderstorms, accompanied by heavy rain and gusty winds.

Météo-France's forecasts indicate that following the intense heat observed on Wednesday, a thunderstorm episode requiring special vigilance is expected. This could lead to significant rainfall accumulations over short periods, increasing the risk of flooding.

Additionally, Corsica is also facing an orange alert for thunderstorms, expected to begin Friday morning. The island is experiencing intense weather conditions with violent wind gusts and rain that could reach the equivalent of a month's worth of precipitation in just a few hours, as stated by another source from Franceinfo.

Alpes-Maritimes and Var are particularly affected, peaking with an orange alert due to thunderstorms that are expected to persist until the end of Thursday evening. Furthermore, these two departments also have a yellow alert for the risks of rain and flooding.

Overall, according to Le Figaro, up to nine departments in the South-East could be under an orange alert on Friday, indicating a continuation of thunderstorm conditions despite a cooling of temperatures.

Authorities have urged residents, particularly in Corsica, to stay indoors due to the extreme weather conditions, and local officials have closed all mountainous areas of the island in anticipation of dangerous conditions.
