At Vienna's main train station, travelers have been exploited by a so-called 'taxi mafia' for years. Reports indicate that taxi drivers often demand excessive fixed prices and refuse to accept rides at regular rates. These practices have led to many travelers feeling uncertain and complaining about the situation.

The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) are also aware of the incidents and express hope that the situation could improve. However, they admit that they have little power to combat the issues. The repeated checks and measures have so far not shown the desired effect.
