Over 1,000 monuments lost in Germany within two years
According to the German Foundation for Monument Protection, over 1,000 architectural monuments have been irretrievably lost in the past two years.

The German Foundation for Monument Protection has announced in its current "Black Book" that a total of 1,077 monuments have been lost in Germany over the past two years. This figure means that, on average, more than one architectural monument was irretrievably lost each day.
Among the reasons cited for these losses are fires, decay, and real estate speculation. Despite existing monument protection laws, many protected buildings have been demolished or significantly altered.
The foundation emphasizes that monument protection is often perceived as a hindrance; however, in reality, there is a tough battle to secure buildings worthy of preservation. This loss carries significant public and cultural value.
This situation has led to an ongoing debate about the effectiveness of monument protection and the challenges faced by organizations dedicated to preserving cultural heritage. The foundation calls for more support and attention to this issue.
