Pakistan Declares State of Emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amid Protests
Emergency rule has been imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, suspending the provincial government amid protests from Imran Khan's supporters.

Pakistan has declared a state of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a province governed by former Prime Minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. This announcement, made by President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday, includes the suspension of the provincial government, which has been criticized by the federal cabinet for its disengagement from anti-terrorism efforts, according to the Prime Minister's office.
The imposition of emergency rule follows protests led by thousands of Khan's supporters, who have marched in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa demanding his release amid challenging economic conditions. This unrest has prompted the federal government to take decisive action in the province thought to be a stronghold for Khan and the PTI.
In conjunction with the suspension of the provincial government, the federal government has authorized the deployment of Pakistan Army troops in the province to aid civil authorities, as stated in a Statutory Regulatory Order issued by the interior ministry. This move aims to restore order amidst ongoing protests and escalating tensions.
Critics of the emergency declaration, including PTI representatives, have characterized the move as a

provincially governed by Imran Khan's party, accusing the federal government of staging a coup under the guise of managing security.
The emergency rule grants extensive control to the federal government, allowing for sweeping administrative powers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Prior to this declaration, tensions had rose significantly between the federal authorities and the provincial government, leading to growing unrest following Imran Khan's imprisonment.
As protests continue and the situation evolves, both supporters of Khan and government officials appear poised to respond to the shifting dynamics within the province, raising the stakes for all parties involved in this ongoing political crisis.
