A piece of the ceiling in the grand foyer of the Kennedy Center partially collapsed during heavy rain on Friday evening. According to a statement from the Kennedy Center, no injuries were reported, but debris and dust were scattered across the red carpet area typically used by patrons.

Following the incident, a spokesperson for the Kennedy Center attributed the ceiling collapse to 'decades of neglect', highlighting ongoing concerns about the venue's maintenance. This incident has reignited discussions around the necessity for renovations at the cultural center.

In a separate statement, the Kennedy Center referenced comments made by former President Trump, suggesting that his calls for renovations were valid and emphasizing the critical need for the venue to undergo restoration. They stated, 'President Trump has been right: America’s cultural center needs to close, renovate, and be restored—now.'

Roma Daravi, the vice president for public relations at the Kennedy Center, confirmed that the incident did not result in any injuries, ensuring that safety protocols were not compromised during the event.
