Police protest in Lisbon for better salaries
On Thursday, hundreds of police officers and guards held a demonstration in Lisbon demanding salary increases and improvements in working conditions.

Hundreds of police officers from the PSP and military personnel from the GNR gathered at Largo de Camões in Lisbon for a demonstration organized by the Police Professionals' Union (ASPP/PSP) and the Association of Guard Professionals (APG/GNR). The protest takes place this Thursday and aims to demand salary increases, a review of career paths, and improvements in working conditions, as reported by several sources.
The protesters intend to pressure the Government to respond to demands outlined in an agreement signed in 2024. The gathering began at 5:30 PM and is scheduled to conclude near the Prime Minister's residence, which has been highlighted by various news agencies.
According to reports, the police and guards present at the demonstration are motivated by a collective desire to see their concerns addressed regarding their working conditions and salaries. This event marks a significant expression of discontent among security forces, who feel their needs have not been sufficiently addressed.

In addition to salary demands, participants are also calling for a review of their career paths, reflecting a desire for recognition and appreciation of their efforts and services to society, as noted in testimonies from demonstrators.
Today's protest is an example of the growing sentiment of dissatisfaction within the security forces, who many believe should have fair working conditions and compensation. The event has been widely covered by the media, underscoring the relevance of the cause and the mobilization of the community.
At the same time, it is important to note that the demonstration occurs within a broader context of government discussions and commitments regarding policing and public safety in Portugal, reflecting the increasing importance of the voices of security professionals in this sphere. The organizers of the protest claim that the fight for justice and equitable compensation is a priority.
