Portugal bans full-face veils in public

Portuguese President Antonio José Seguro has enacted a new law prohibiting face concealment in public. This law was passed by the Portuguese Parliament in July, backed by the right-wing governing coalition and the far-right.

According to local media, the text is often referred to as "the burqa law," as it specifically aims to ban clothing that covers the face or makes identification impossible in public spaces.
