President of the Republic promulgates extension of SIFIDE II

The President of the Republic has enacted a decree authorizing the extension of SIFIDE II, revoking the indirect application of benefits through investment funds.

The President of the Republic of Portugal, António José Seguro, recently promulgated a decree that allows the Government to extend the Tax Incentives System for Business Research and Development II (SIFIDE II). This promulgation was formalized on April 16, as indicated in the publication in the Diário da República.

The new decree revokes the existing opportunity for companies to deduct amounts invested in venture capital funds linked to research and development (R&D) projects. SIFIDE II is a system aimed at incentivizing business research and development by providing tax benefits to companies investing in R&D activities. The extension of this system has been a much-anticipated measure, considering the importance of innovation for economic growth.
