Prison guards at Vale de Judeus prison have decided to extend their strike until the end of September. This decision comes almost two years after the escape of five inmates from the facility.

The leader of the National Prison Guards Union (SNCGP) has denounced delays in the modernization of the prison, highlighting the urgent need for improvements in the working conditions of the guards.

According to the SNCGP leader, the current strike is a response to failures in the management and security of the prison establishment. He emphasized that if they had been on strike on the day of the escape, the situation might have been prevented.

The continuation of this protest reflects concerns over security and the efficiency of services at the prison, which still lacks concrete solutions to the identified problems.
