Rare sea turtle Rhossi begins 8,000-kilometer journey home

The Kemp's ridley sea turtle named Rhossi was found severely hypothermic on a beach in Wales in 2023. The turtle required intensive care at the Anglesey Sea Zoo for over two years, after which it has fully recovered.

Conservationists have announced that Rhossi is now starting its journey of more than 8,000 kilometers back to its home region in the Gulf of Mexico. The journey will take place by air, which is considered a special event.

The farewell in Wales was emotional, with much emphasis placed on the care that was provided to Rhossi. The turtle was seriously injured and its recovery took considerable time and effort.
