Remains of medieval kings evacuated from monastery in Spain due to wildfire

In the northern region of Aragón, Spain, the remains of three medieval kings have been evacuated from the monastery of San Juan de la Peña. This action was taken due to an approaching wildfire that has already caused significant damage.

According to reports, the fire has destroyed over 8,000 hectares and poses a threat to the ancient monastery, which is an important cultural heritage site from the medieval kingdom of Aragón.

In addition to the royal remains, paintings and valuable garments have also been removed from the monastery. The evacuation was carried out by emergency services who aim to prevent further damage to the heritage site.

As this operation was underway, nearly 900 residents from twelve villages in the region were evacuated as a precaution.
