Rent prices rise in Lisbon and Porto after higher education placements
Following the placements in higher education, average rents in Lisbon and Porto have seen a significant increase, reflecting the high demand for housing in the cities.

After the announcement of placements in higher education last Sunday, the average rent prices in Lisbon and Porto have risen. In Lisbon, the average price per room is now around 550 euros, while in Porto the average is about 450 euros per month.
According to Observador, the influx of approximately 50,000 candidates into higher education, many of whom will move to Lisbon, has contributed to a rent increase of about 10% in the capital. In Porto, rent prices have gone up by 20 euros, which also reflects the growing demand for housing in the city.
RTP reported that the increase in rents can be directly linked to the timing of university choice, as many students seek accommodation in urban areas that host these institutions.

The rise in rental prices coincides with the start of the academic year, when demand for housing typically increases, especially in large cities.
The changes in the rental market in Lisbon and Porto raise concerns about housing affordability for students and other groups, given the impact of rising rents on family budgets.
This situation may also accelerate discussions on housing policies and the need to create solutions that address the growing demand for accommodation in university cities.
