Report on Social Security presented by group of experts
Today, a group of experts presented a final report on Social Security, addressing issues such as sustainability and funding of the system.

The group of experts, appointed by the government of Luís Montenegro, presented today the final report on Social Security in Portugal. This document follows another report from a previous group, chaired by the government of António Costa, which had already conducted an analysis of the pension system.
While the new report addresses the sustainability of the system, the previous one advocated for halting early retirements in an attempt to adjust the system to new demographic realities.

The current report also examines issues such as population aging, the decrease in the workforce, and the importance of immigrants, who account for between 14% and 20% of Social Security revenues in Portugal.
Currently, Social Security has sufficient funds to cover more than two years of pensions, but the analysis raises concerns about how the model will be financed in the future and what reforms may be viable. The conclusions will be assessed by the government in consultation with various stakeholders.
