Russian authorities have released 32-year-old Robert Gilman, a former U.S. Marine, who had been incarcerated in a colony in Voronezh since 2022. This was reported by the news portal Reuters, citing multiple sources.
According to the information, Gilman was pardoned "on humanitarian grounds" by President Vladimir Putin. Prior to this decision, the U.S. had urged Moscow to allow Gilman to return home for medical treatment.
On August 11, 2023, Gilman was flown out of Russia on a U.S. State Department aircraft headed for Washington. The exact circumstances and duration of his stay in the colony are not currently detailed.
