Search for murder weapon in cold case of Rob Zweekhorst

After more than twelve years, there may be a breakthrough in the case surrounding the murder of Rob Zweekhorst, with new clues about the murder weapon.

More than twelve years after the mistaken murder of Rob Zweekhorst, former director of a mental health institution, a new development appears to have emerged. Zweekhorst was shot dead on New Year's Day in 2014 in Berkel en Rodenrijs.

Recently, a tipster came forward to the Rotterdam police with information regarding the firearm that was allegedly used in the murder. The police have received a lead suggesting that the weapon may lie at the bottom of the Ringvaartplas in Rotterdam-Prinsenland.

The police have initiated a search for the possible murder weapon. Reporter Gerda Frankenhuis noted that there is a growing sense that a breakthrough in the case is imminent.

The case has been the subject of investigation and interest for many years, and a new lead could potentially lead to further steps in the inquiry into this mistaken murder.
