Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu is expected in Gironde this Monday to launch the reconstruction of areas affected by the recent wildfires. He will travel to Mérignac, where he will meet with local officials and socio-economic stakeholders.

During his visit, Lecornu was met with boos in Le Porge, where the mayor expressed concerns about the resources allocated for reconstruction. The mayor specifically called for a 'Marshall Plan' to support the region, which suffered considerable damage during the most destructive fire in France since 1949.

This megafire led to the evacuation of 220,000 people last July, highlighting the scale of the disaster. Lecornu is scheduled to discuss resource needs with members of a residents’ collective as well as with firefighters.

Lecornu's visit comes as local officials are pressuring the government for more support for the reconstruction of the affected areas, reflecting the urgency of the situation.
